Emergency Room Wait Times for HCA Virginia's Richmond-Area Hospitals
About Our Wait TimesER wait times are approximate and provided for informational purposes only. If you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1. The ER wait time represents the time it takes to see a qualified medical professional, defined as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). ER wait times represent a four-hour rolling average updated every 30 minutes, and is defined as the time of patient arrival until the time the patient is greeted by a qualified medical professional. Patients are triaged at arrival and are then seen by a qualified medical professional in priority order based on their presenting complaint and reason for visit. National average wait time is one hour, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). HCA hospitals strive to beat the national average.
This new transparency of ER wait times is a celebration of more than 18 months of work by our ER teams to improve the speed at which we are able to get patients seen by the provider. Wait times are tracked using a statistical tracker system in the ER which transfers data to an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. This feed automatically displays and updates the time online at http://richmond.hcavirginia.com and electronic billboards. Specialty ERs like our Pediatric ER may have a slightly longer wait time and this message has been included in media announcements. Local media coverage of this new service:
